Employment Counseling

Our firm has a practical approach to the workplace:  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

We encourage clients to develop policies avoiding problems before they start. Our staff frequently review employee handbooks, management practices, and benefit materials for compliance with state and federal law. We also provide workplace training for management, supervisors, and employees.

Our firm is available to coordinate workplace investigations and crisis management following accidents, employee complaints, and visits by state or federal officials. We also find and monitor local counsel for clients operating in other states and countries around the world.

Employment Litigation

We stand ready when employers are threatened, sued, or must turn to the courts for help.

Our counsel have defended hundreds of individual and class-action suits involving harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination, unpaid wages, disability, retaliation, leaves of absence, privacy, defamation, employee benefits, and other types of workplace claims.

We also represent employers in administrative litigation before local, state, and federal agencies, as well as handling petitions and appeals ranging from small-claims review to the United States Supreme Court.

Labor Relations

Our professional staff have broad expertise in labor-management relations including union organizing, collective bargaining, grievance and arbitration, and unfair labor practice litigation.

We frequently appear before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB), and the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) in addition to appellate enforcement of these agencies' decisions.

Hands Shaking in Agreement

Mediation - Alternative Dispute Resolution

We represent employers in mediation, arbitration, and other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Our firm includes trained mediator resources, and we apply these skills within our employment law practice.  We believe every successful mediation requires attention to both the substance of claims and the subtleties of ADR process. This approach resolves nearly every dispute we encounter.
